Biography:

August de Boeck (1865-1937) was a Belgian composer and conductor who played a significant role in the development of classical music in Belgium during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

De Boeck was born in Antwerp, Belgium, and began studying music at a young age. He showed a natural talent for composition and went on to study at the Royal Flemish Conservatory in Brussels, where he graduated with honors in 1886.

After completing his studies, de Boeck began working as a conductor and composer in Belgium and abroad. He served as the director of the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra and was also a member of the faculty at the Royal Flemish Conservatory.

De Boeck's compositions were diverse and included works for orchestra, chamber music, vocal music, and piano. He was particularly interested in incorporating traditional Belgian folk music into his compositions, and many of his works reflect this influence.

Some of de Boeck's most notable compositions include his Symphony in D major, his String Quartet in F minor, and his opera "De Leeuw van Vlaanderen," which was based on the Flemish folk epic of the same name.

In addition to his work as a composer, de Boeck was also a prominent figure in the Belgian music community and was active in promoting the work of fellow Belgian composers. He died in Brussels in 1937, leaving behind a legacy as one of Belgium's most important classical composers.
